Mark S. DeFrancesco, M.D. is board certified in Ob/Gyn and served as President of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) from 2014-2017. Dr. DeFrancesco is also a past National Secretary of ACOG and has served on or chaired many ACOG Committees and Task Forces, including Finance, Practice Management, Ambulatory Practice Operations and the Task Force on Patient Safety in the Office Setting.
He has been practicing since 1984 in Waterbury and is one of the founders of Women’s Health Connecticut/Physicians for Women’s Health, one of the largest ObGyn practices in the country, and served as its Chief Medical Officer from 1997 – 2014.
In addition to his ACOG activities, he is a Board Member and a past President of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and is the past President of the New England Obstetrical and Gynecological Society. He also served as Chair of the Ob/Gyn Department of St. Mary’s Hospital for many years. A graduate of Yale University, Dr. DeFrancesco received his medical education at the University of Connecticut. He has also earned an MBA from the University of New Haven.
Dr. DeFrancesco has published more than 20 articles and has been a frequent speaker on various clinical, patient safety and “Business of Medicine” topics. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. DeFrancesco served as a State Representative in the Connecticut State Legislature. At the present time, Dr. DeFrancesco limits his practice to office gynecology only.
