A Message for Patients with Cigna Insurance

You may have heard recent news about negotiations between Cigna and Trinity Health. Unless Cigna and Trinity reach an agreement on a new contract, St. Francis Hospital in Hartford and St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury will no longer be considered “in network” for patients with Cigna insurance as of October 31, 2021.

If you are a Women’s Health Connecticut patient with Cigna insurance, we want to reassure you that the negotiations between Cigna and these hospitals will not impact the care you receive from Women’s Health Connecticut providers in our offices, including your annual exams, in-office 3D mammograms, and problem visits.

While the services that our providers render to you in the hospital will be covered, your hospital stay may not be. If you are a current Women’s Health Connecticut obstetrical patient in your second or third trimester, or if you are already in the middle of care for a medical/surgical issue, you may apply for a “Continuity of Care” exception that will allow your hospitalization to be covered as well in case your preferred hospital is no longer in-network at the time you need to be admitted.

To apply for this exception:

Call 1-800-244-6224 (or the number listed on your Cigna insurance card). Tell the representative that you are in the middle of treatment and ask if you qualify for continuity of care.

OR

Download, print, and fill out the Continuity of Care Form and mail it to Cigna. Cigna will respond to you by mail.

If you have any questions or concerns about your care, we’re here to help. Please call your provider’s office and ask to speak to the practice manager. We apologize for any inconvenience and are hopeful that these issues will be resolved soon.
