Connecticut’s Only Free-Standing Birthing Center for Natural, Midwife-Led Childbirth

Women’s Health Connecticut is excited to have the Connecticut Childbirth & Women’s Center as one of our many options for women’s care. Since 1997, Connecticut’s only freestanding birth center has offered a homelike, nonmedical setting focused on comfort and natural care.

What is a Birthing Center?

A birth center is a healthcare facility dedicated to childbirth, midwifery, and women’s wellness, offering a holistic approach to care.

Led by Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMS) who specialize in natural, low-intervention births and support you through every stage, from prenatal visits to postpartum.

At a birth center, you can move freely, choose how you labor and give birth (yes, water birth is an option!), and you’re never separated from your support system. While it’s an independent setting, the center maintains a strong connection with Danbury Hospital for seamless care if needed.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Birth Center?

At the CT Childbirth and Women’s Center, we serve low-risk pregnancies, which means:

  • Full-term pregnancy (at least 37 weeks)
  • Single pregnancies
  • No history of major birth-related complications
  • Do not have certain medical conditions, including, but not limited to, insulin-dependent diabetes

That doesn’t mean you cannot work with one of our experienced midwives if you desire. All our CNMs have privileges at Danbury Hospital to serve as primary providers for hospital births,

What Should I Expect?

At the Connecticut Childbirth & Women’s Center, we believe that birth should be empowering, personal, and grounded in trust. From your first contraction to your first moments with your baby, we’re here to support you in a calm, comfortable environment designed for your well-being.
