Schedule: Monday- Thursday, 8:00a- 5:00p and Friday, 8:00am- 4:00pm
Report to: Practice Manager

Position Summary: The Billing Clerk is responsible for accurately entering and reviewing medical billing codes for patient services and treatments. The Billing Clerk will ensure that the billing codes accurately reflect the services provided by healthcare professionals, and that all charges are correctly entered into the billing system. The Billing Clerk is detail orientated and skilled in analyzing data, communicating effectively and collaborating as a team.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for entering and reconciling charges and payments from medical offices in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Contact patients and insurance companies to collect payments, discuss payment plans and resolve billing issues.
  • Perform benefit verifications, eligibility checks, maintain billing reports and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and handle bank deposits as well as month-end closing.
  • Position works in a close team environment to meet daily and monthly billing metrics.
  • Other responsibilities include verifying correct insurance filing information on behalf of the client and patient.
  • Keeps management informed of matters regarding charge entry.
  • Trend and escalate billing issues to appropriate supervisory level.
  • Keep current on informational changes in billing procedures.
  • Maintain and respect the confidentiality of PHI (Protected Health Information) in accordance with insurance collection guidelines, corporate policy and all HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) mandates.
  • Adhere to all corporate compliance mandates and guidelines.
  • Follow internal protocols regarding departmental communications.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

Skills/qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED is required; however, prior healthcare experience with 1 to 2 years in a medical setting and revenue cycle is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team to coordinate assignments and meet goals.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to navigate multiple programs and learn new and complex computer system applications.
  • Displays exemplary organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with major group health payers.
  • Basic knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication.
  • Customer service focus.
