Position: Certified Medical Assistant
Location: Women’s Health Associates
Location: 170 Mt Pleasant Rd. Suite 203 Newtown, CT 06470 (required flexibility to travel to the Southbury office as needed)
Employment Type: Part-time, 30-34 hrs per week
Schedule: Tuesday, 8:00am- 12:00pm, Wednesday, 12:00pm- 7:00pm and Thursday & Friday, 8:00am- 5:00pm. One Saturday shift per month from 8:00am- 1:00pm.

Position Summary: Women’s Health CT is currently seeking a Certified Medical Assistant for one of our fast-paced OB/GYN practices. As a Medical Assistant with Women’s Health CT, you will be expected to complete intake for our patients, coordinate care plans and work with our providers in fostering a supportive and compassionate environment for patients and their families. Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Assist the front desk and clinical team with incoming phone calls.
- Conduct patient assessments, prepare patient charts & understand intake process when rooming patients.
- Responsible for rooming patients and obtaining medical history, medications, chief complaints and transferring the information into the patients’ chart.
- Accountable for stocking and cleaning exam rooms between each visit.
- Prepare and assist with medical procedures ranging from IUD insertions to colposcopies and endometrial biopsies.
- Sterilization of instruments in the morning, evening and after patient procedures.
- Process lab orders and package specimens following office protocol.
- Adhere to OSHA lab compliance by completing logs, sterilizing medical equipment, monitoring vaccine temperatures and ensure
- Appropriately handle and escalate urgent result calls coming in for providers
- Monitor inventory of medical supplies and stock supplies when they are delivered to the office.
- Wash patient gowns daily, fold and store in exam rooms.
- Crosstrain and cover front desk as needed
- Assist the front desk and clinical team with incoming phone calls
- Handle/Schedule initial pregnancy calls, IUD placements, ultrasounds, etc.
- Actively manage bucket in athena, including but not limited to completing disability paperwork, contacting patient with non-urgent results, medical record requests, and prior authorizations.
- Coordinate Care with outside sources as needed.
- Support staff and assist with assignments as requested.
- Phlebotomy/blood draws, as needed.
- Backup floor nurse/MA as needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Skills/qualifications:
- A CMA, CCMA or RMA is required.
- 1 year of Medical Assistant experience is required
- 1 year of Phlebotomy experience is required.
- Experience working in an OBGYN setting is preferred, but not required.
- Must be proficient on a computer and familiar with EMRs
- Excellent customer service skills, strong communication and ability to diffuse situations.
- Team work values and the ability to connect with staff, Providers and patients.
