LGBTQIA+ Fertility Support in Connecticut
If you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, non-binary, transgender, or queer and are considering assisted reproductive technology (ART) to start your family, we have LGBTQIA+-friendly reproductive healthcare and fertility support at several locations as well as with several affiliates. We prioritize your physical, mental, and emotional health, listening carefully to your needs.
Our providers are experts in ART and stay current with the latest advancements. Depending on your gender, orientation, and medical history, you have several options:
Same-Sex Couples IVF: In IVF, eggs are fertilized by sperm outside the body in a lab. For lesbian couples, one partner can provide the eggs while the other carries the pregnancy, or they may use donor sperm. For gay couples, this involves using a donor egg and a surrogate to carry the pregnancy, allowing both partners to be part of the family-building process.
Reciprocal IVF: Also known as co-maternity or co-IVF, this option is ideal for lesbian or trans-men couples where both partners have female reproductive organs. One partner provides the eggs through ovarian stimulation, and the other carries the pregnancy, enabling both to contribute biologically.
Egg Donation and Surrogacy: For gay or trans-women couples where both partners have male reproductive organs, an egg donor and gestational carrier (surrogate) are used. One or both partners provide sperm to fertilize donor eggs, and the resulting embryo is transferred to the surrogate, who will carry and deliver the baby.
Fertility Preservation: Trans individuals may choose cryopreservation of sperm, eggs, or embryos before starting gender-affirming hormone therapy or surgery. Even if you've begun hormone treatments, it may still be possible to freeze sperm.
